EINFÜHRUNG
Whether you’re a seasoned tabletop player or a newcomer to the world of miniature gaming, there’s something to be said about the thrill of turning the tide of a quasi-medieval skirmish with a plastic warband and a roll of a dice. Welcome to Warcry, a tabletop skirmish game from Warhammer’s Age of Sigmar. Kriegsschrei offers the thrill of wargaming without the intimidation of massive armies of miniatures. It’s designed to be fast, engaging, and most importantly, fun. This beginner-friendly guide aims to help you understand the basics of Warcry and get started on your own journey into this captivating game.
WAS IST WARCRY?
Warcry is a skirmish-level game set in the Zeitalter des Sigmar game universe, both pieces from Games Workshop. It was released in mid-2019 as a faster and more streamlined approach to the fantasy warfare typically seen in Warhammer games. Players control a small warband of fighters and pit them against each other in fast-paced, action-packed battles that are dictated by tactics and literal roll of the dice. The game is steeped in a rich lore, set in Eightpoints, a realm under the rule of the dreaded Chaos god, Archaon. Whether you’re battling in narrative-led missions or clashing in one-off games, Warcry lets you dive deep into the Age of Sigmar universe on a more manageable scale compared to its parent game.
WIE ES FUNKTIONIERT / WIE MAN ANFÄNGT
At its core, Warcry functions on a turn-based system. You start off by choosing a warband, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and unique abilities. There are official warbands designed specifically for Warcry like Iron Golems and Untamed Beasts, plus you can use existing Age of Sigmar factions.
Once your warband is assembled, it’s time to create your battleground using Warcry terrain, and get into position. The game structure works on alternating activations: you move a fighter, then your opponent moves a fighter. The player with the initiative changes every battle round.
Combat is driven by dice. Your fighters’ abilities, like attack strength and range, have specific values. You roll dice to attempt to meet or exceed these values for your actions to succeed. Turn by turn, you’ll move, attack, and perform special actions in an effort to outmaneuver and ultimately eliminate your opponent’s warband.
WAS SIE ZUM SPIELEN BRAUCHEN
You’ll need a Warcry starter set, which includes everything you need to stage your battles: two starter warbands (Iron Golems and Untamed Beasts), a double-sided gaming board, a full set of Warcry terrain, rulebooks, and dice. You might also want a mat or other flat surface larger than the included game board to give yourself space for dice, cards, and refreshments!
It’s also worth considering additional warbands and terrain sets as you progress in the game for more variety and challenge.
TIPPS FÜR ABSOLUTE ANFÄNGER
1. Begin with the basic rules: Don’t worry about learning all the advanced rules and strategies at once. Stick with the core rules at first. You can gradually introduce more complex elements as you become comfortable with the game.
2. Assemble your warband wisely: Each fighter in your warband has unique abilities. Use a mix of fighters to balance brute force with cunning, and melee prowess with ranged advantage.
3. Plan your moves: Although Warcry is fast-paced, don’t rush your movements. Think through your strategy: each movement and attack count.
4. Practice makes perfect: Play as many games as you can. The more you play, the more familiar you become with your warband’s capabilities and with the game’s mechanics.
5. Have fun: Remember, gaming is about enjoyment. It’s okay to lose games, especially in the beginning. Learn from each game to improve your strategy.
