Combat Patrol Orks Review: Box Contents, Playstyle & Value Guide

What Is Combat Patrol: Orks (Morgrim's Butchas)?

Combat Patrol: Orks — officially named Morgrim's Butchas — is Games Workshop's entry-level box for the Orks, built around the Beast Snagga sub-faction theme. Priced at £105, it delivers 26 miniatures plus a transfer sheet — one of the highest model counts in the Combat Patrol range.

Box Contents: What Do You Get?

  • 1x Beastboss — your warlord, a powerful Beast Snagga leader
  • 4x Squighog Boyz + 1x Bomb Squig — fast, hard-hitting cavalry riding massive squig beasts
  • 20x Beast Snagga Boyz — the core infantry: Beast Snagga-themed Ork Boyz in large numbers
  • 1x Ork Clans Transfer Sheet — clan icons and markings

26 models for £105 is outstanding value by any measure.

Playstyle: How Do Orks Play?

Orks are the most aggressive and numerous faction in 40k. They overwhelm opponents with sheer volume of bodies and close-combat fury. Key traits:

  • Green Tide: 20 Beast Snagga Boyz create a wall of green bodies that must be cleared before they reach melee — and they will reach melee.
  • Beastboss: A combat powerhouse who buffs Beast Snagga units nearby. Keep him in the thick of it.
  • Squighog Boyz: Fast cavalry that hits hard on the charge. Use them to threaten flanks or deliver a killing blow to depleted enemy units.
  • Beast Snaggas: Slightly better than standard Boyz at hunting vehicles — their rampage rules deal mortal wounds to large targets.

Orks reward aggressive, forward play. Objective control through weight of bodies, not careful manoeuvring.

Value: Is the Orks Combat Patrol Worth It?

Exceptional value. 26 models including the Beastboss character and Squighog cavalry for £105 is one of the best model-per-pound ratios in the Combat Patrol range.

Recommended Paints for Orks

  • Death Guard Green or Waaagh! Flesh spray for the green skin base
  • Biel-tan Green or Athonian Camoshade for skin shading
  • Skarsnik Green highlight for raised areas
  • Leadbelcher and Agrax Earthshade for rusty metalwork
  • Mephiston Red for clothing (Goff clan) or bright accent colours for other clans
  • Squig Orange or Troll Slayer Orange for squig skin
