EINFÜHRUNG
Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is more than just a game; it’s an immersive foray into the realms of imagination, strategy, and social interaction. At its heart, D&D is a story – a story crafted and shared by you and your friends. If that sounds interesting to you, then you’re in the right place. This is a beginner-friendly guide to Dungeons & Dragons, designed to introduce you to this captivating and complex world. After reading this guide, we hope you’ll be twisting tales and weaving magic with the best of them.
WAS IST DUNGEONS & DRAGONS?
First published in 1974 by Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. (TSR), Dungeons & Dragons was the game that birthed the modern concept of role-playing games. Players assume the role of characters – wizards, warriors, rogues, and more – in a fantasy world filled with danger, treasures, and adventures. Run by a Game Master (GM) who narrates storylines and controls the non-player characters, D&D allows a breadth of freedom and creativity not precisely possible in most video games. As one player put it, “If you can imagine it, you can do it in D&D.”
WIE ES FUNKTIONIERT / WIE MAN ANFÄNGT
Essentially, D&D is a game of imagination, where players describe their character’s actions, and the GM determines the results. It all starts with character creation – you’ll decide what race (Human, elf, dwarf, etc.), class (Fighter, wizard, cleric, etc.), and background (Noble, soldier, thief, etc.) your character is. This character becomes your persona in the adventure.
Most of the decision-making process is based on dice rolls; the most important is the 20-sided die, or d20. You’ll roll this die for everything from attempting to climb a cliff to casting a powerful spell, with the results modified by your character skills and abilities.
The game is typically a episodic series of quests or missions. The GM lays out the setup – maybe you’re hired to steal a precious artifact or perhaps you’re on a quest to slay a dragon. Whatever it is, it’s up to you and your party to decide how you go about it.

To get started, you’ll need several essential items. The first is the Player’s Handbook, which contains all the rules and guidelines for the game. Next, you’ll need character sheets to keep track of your character’s abilities, inventory, and more. Then, a set of dice is essential – you’ll need a d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and the d20. Additionally, you’ll also require a Dungeon Master’s Guide if you plan to run the game, and optionally, a Monster Manual.
